Frequently Asked Questions
An option chain, also known as an option matrix, is a listing of all available option contracts, both puts and calls, for a given security. It displays strike prices in the middle column, with call options (CE) on the right and put options (PE) on the left. Each row shows key data like Last Traded Price (LTP), Open Interest (OI), Volume, Implied Volatility (IV), and Greeks. The option chain is most useful for analyzing the next trading day's potential moves.
Use the Option Chain to identify support and resistance levels by looking at strikes with high Open Interest. Compare call and put OI to gauge market sentiment - high call OI suggests bullish sentiment, while high put OI indicates bearish sentiment. Monitor volume and OI changes throughout the day to spot accumulation or distribution. Use the buildup indicators (Long/Short/Unwinding/Covering) to understand position changes and market dynamics.
LTP: Last Traded Price of the option. OI (Open Interest): Total number of outstanding contracts, indicating market commitment. Volume: Number of contracts traded today, showing liquidity. IV (Implied Volatility): Market's expectation of price volatility. Buildup: Shows position changes (Long/Short buildup, Unwinding, Covering). Greeks: Delta (price sensitivity), Gamma (Delta's rate of change), Theta (time decay), Vega (volatility sensitivity).
Use the ATM filter to show only strikes around the current price (5, 10, 20, 30, or All). The Settings modal lets you customize which columns to display, choose between Quantity and Lots display mode, and enable/disable highlighting. Use column filters to focus on specific metrics like high OI strikes or high volume options. The refresh interval can be set to auto-update data at 1, 2, 3, or 5-minute intervals.
Buildup indicates how positions are changing: Long Buildup (L) - Price up + OI up (bullish, fresh buying), Short Buildup (S) - Price down + OI up (bearish, fresh selling), Long Unwinding (LU) - Price down + OI down (bulls closing positions), Short Covering (SC) - Price up + OI down (bears covering positions). Use buildup to identify where smart money is positioning and spot potential trend reversals.
Yes, the Option Chain is mobile-responsive. For the best experience on mobile: Use landscape mode for better visibility, hide unnecessary columns using Settings to reduce clutter, use the ATM filter to show only relevant strikes (5 or 10), and use browser zoom controls carefully. The table is scrollable horizontally and vertically to access all data.
Option Chain data updates in real-time during market hours (9:15 AM - 3:30 PM IST). You can set auto-refresh intervals of 1, 2, 3, or 5 minutes using the refresh timer. For indices like NIFTY and BANKNIFTY, 1-minute refresh is recommended. For stocks, 2-5 minute intervals are sufficient. Manual refresh is also available by clicking the refresh button.
Click the Historical button to access past Option Chain data. Select a date from the calendar to view the option chain for that specific trading day. Historical data helps you analyze how OI and prices changed over time, identify patterns, and understand market behavior during similar market conditions. Historical data is available for past trading sessions.
Call options (CE) give you the right to buy the underlying asset at the strike price. They are used for bullish strategies - you profit when the price rises above the strike. Put options (PE) give you the right to sell at the strike price. They are used for bearish strategies or hedging - you profit when the price falls below the strike. In the Option Chain, calls are on the right side and puts on the left side of each strike price.
Open Interest (OI) shows total outstanding contracts - high OI at a strike indicates strong support or resistance. Volume shows contracts traded today - high volume indicates active trading and liquidity. When OI increases with price movement, it shows fresh positions being built. When OI decreases, it indicates positions being closed. Compare OI and Volume together: High OI + High Volume = Strong conviction, High OI + Low Volume = Existing positions, Low OI + High Volume = Day trading activity.
