Frequently Asked Questions

Options Analysis provides intraday visualization of Open Interest (OI) trends across Call and Put options. It helps you understand market sentiment by tracking OI changes throughout the trading day at different time intervals.

By analyzing Call vs Put OI patterns, you can identify potential support/resistance levels, trend strength, and overall market direction based on option writers' positioning.

  • Call OI vs Put OI: Shows the total cumulative Open Interest for Calls and Puts at each time point. This indicates the overall positioning and helps identify which side (bulls or bears) has stronger presence.
  • Call Change OI vs Put Change OI: Displays the intraday change in Open Interest (additions or reductions). This is more dynamic and shows fresh buildup or unwinding activity, giving insights into recent market moves.
  • Call Volume vs Put Volume: Tracks actual trading activity (contracts traded) rather than open positions, indicating immediate market interest and liquidity.

  • Call OI Rising + Price Rising: Bullish signal - fresh long positions being built.
  • Put OI Rising + Price Falling: Bearish signal - fresh short positions or protective puts being added.
  • Call OI Falling + Price Rising: Short covering in Calls, can indicate strong upside momentum.
  • Put OI Falling + Price Falling: Long unwinding in Puts, can indicate further downside.
  • Both OI Rising: Market is building positions on both sides, often indicates uncertainty or range-bound movement.

  • 1 Minute: Most granular view, useful for scalping and intraday momentum trading. Shows real-time OI changes.
  • 5 Minutes: Balanced view for intraday traders, filters out noise while maintaining responsiveness.
  • 15 Minutes: Good for swing traders and identifying short-term trends without excessive noise.
  • 30 Minutes: Captures medium-term intraday trends, suitable for positional intraday strategies.
  • 1 Hour: Best for end-of-day analysis and understanding major OI shifts during the trading session.

PCR (Put-Call Ratio) is the ratio of Put OI to Call OI. It's a key sentiment indicator:

  • PCR > 1.2: High Put OI - Bearish sentiment or strong support zone (option writers providing cushion).
  • PCR 0.8 - 1.2: Neutral range - Balanced market with no extreme positioning.
  • PCR < 0.8: High Call OI - Bullish sentiment or strong resistance zone.
  • Tip: Extremely high or low PCR values (above 1.5 or below 0.6) can indicate overbought/oversold conditions and potential reversals.

Max Pain is the strike price where maximum option holders will lose money at expiry. It acts as a gravitational pull on the underlying price, especially on expiry days.

  • Spot Above Max Pain: Often indicates resistance, market may drift downwards toward max pain.
  • Spot Below Max Pain: Often indicates support, market may move upwards toward max pain.
  • Note: Max Pain is most relevant 2-3 days before expiry. Earlier in the series, it's less predictive.

The Historical Data feature allows you to analyze past OI patterns:

  • Pattern Recognition: Compare current OI behavior with historical patterns to identify similar setups.
  • Strategy Backtesting: Validate your OI-based strategies by reviewing historical data before/after major events.
  • Trend Confirmation: Check if current OI trends are consistent with past behavior or represent new market dynamics.
  • Tip: Analyze historical data around expiry days to understand typical OI behavior during rollover periods.

  1. Combine OI analysis with price action - never trade on OI alone.
  2. Use shorter intervals (1-5 min) for intraday trades, longer intervals (30min-1hr) for positional analysis.
  3. Watch for sudden spikes in Change OI - they often precede significant price moves.
  4. Pay attention to OI divergence: Price making new highs/lows without OI support can signal weakness.
  5. Monitor PCR along with OI trends for comprehensive market sentiment analysis.
  6. Compare current expiry OI with next expiry to identify rollover or position shifting patterns.
  7. Use the zoom/pan features to focus on specific trading sessions or time windows for detailed analysis.
