Frequently Asked Questions

Open interest is the number of option contracts still open — not squared off or expired. Unlike volume (which resets every session), OI carries forward and shows how much live money is parked at a strike. Rising OI means fresh positions; falling OI means traders are closing.

Price vs OI plots option premium against open interest for a selected strike so you can see whether premium moves are backed by new positioning or by exits. Charts cover Call (CE), Put (PE), and Straddle (CE + PE premium) — useful for ATM and nearby strikes on Nifty, Bank Nifty, and stock options.

Use the classic F&O matrix on premium vs OI at the strike:

  • Premium ↑ + OI ↑ — fresh buildup with conviction (new longs or shorts adding).
  • Premium ↓ + OI ↑ — new writing / short buildup into weakness.
  • Premium ↑ + OI ↓ — short covering or positions being closed into a bounce.
  • Premium ↓ + OI ↓ — long unwinding / reduced participation.

Call Price vs OI tracks CE premium and call open interest (often read for upside / call-writing pressure). Put Price vs OI tracks PE premium and put OI (downside / put-writing). Straddle Price sums CE + PE premium — a quick view of how much volatility premium is priced at that strike during the day.

Start with ATM and 1–2 strikes either side — that is where most intraday flow sits. Also check high-OI call and put walls for support/resistance context. Pick a strike from the strike panel; charts refresh for CE, PE, and straddle at that level.

Live follows today’s session for entries, exits, and whether OI is confirming the move. Historical lets you replay past sessions — useful to study how premium and OI behaved around breakouts, expiry, or event days before you trade a similar setup again.

VWAP (volume-weighted average price) overlays the session’s volume-weighted fair value on the premium chart. Premium trading well above VWAP with rising OI can show aggressive buying; fading back toward VWAP with falling OI often signals profit-taking. Use it as confluence with OI, not as a standalone signal.
